Totally enjoyable! A profitterole of a roller-coaster ride through the tawdry world of celebrity and its delusions. Rush & Molloy season their famous subjects with more than a touch of soy sauce. The end of high and mighty as we know it. Anything that takes down the fat-headed a notch soothes the soul. I appreciated the fast and glib voice, like somebody whose company you'd enjoy sitting next to at an overly-pretentious dinner party. They have seen the highly-visible up close and and stepped on their feet of clay. This isn't War and Peace. It's like one of those over-the-top ice cream desserts you used to get at the soda shop, with extra cherries and whipped cream. Yeah, I'm gonna eat it all!

Rush and Molloy entertained New Yorkers for years with their witty column. Their new book, "Scandal:A Manual, is a cheeky, good tempered and very funny take on celebrities and how they got that way. I greatly enjoyed their inside skinny on celebrity handlers and PR stooges. Rush and Molloy coined Runyonesque descriptors such as "stalkerazzi" and "Party barnacles". "Scandal:A Manual" is a dazzling read and I encourage you to crack the spine and enjoy the ride.

Lots of gossipy tidbits, but kind of confusing, as you're never sure which one of them is writing any one chapter (or part of chapter) unless they specifically mention the other. Also, way, way, way too many mentions of Mort Zuckerman and Richard Johnson - an index would have listed each (conservatively) 200 times.

By its very nature, gossip is old news within 24 hours, so it does not play well in a book that is written a year or more after the event. This book is a rehash of the columns of Rush and Malloy. The last chapter of the book explains all this very well and is an unintended apology for the book itself. There is no news here. There are no additional facts to the original story.

Rush explains why gossip columns are going by the way side, and he is correct. The internet killed it. Nowadays even serious news sources just sit at their desks scanning the internet and using YouTube video, instead of original pictures, for their broadcasts.

This book is written in the gossip column style: Short sentences that hint at scandal, but never really explains it. Most of the people referred to are newspaper industry honchos, people who are important to those who work in the industry, but uninteresting to those who do not.

Mostly, it is an autobiographical book. I never heard of Rush and Malloy before I opened this book. After reading the book, I am still not interested in who they are. From the book description, I thought the book would explain how they got the individual stories and give an in-depth accounting of the story. This did not happen. As the book suggests, the most up to date, detailed news about the stories of the celebs they mention are on the internet, and for free.

if you like those newspapers sold at checkout, you MAY like this, maybe. sorta gives the insight into same but is a bit dated. has interesting bits of information and is a good filler of reading pap when you just need something to read in-between other stuff.

I thought the book was lively and interesting. I did find it confusing when, at the beginning, both writers were speaking, and then the rest of the book was primarily in one voice (George Rush). It's a little history of the gossip column, a little lesson in how far one can go. I didn't know the authors before I read this book, and obviously they are presenting themselves as highly ethical - one can probably take that with a grain of salt. There is nothing particularly memorable in it; it's just a fast read.

It was witty, very interesting, and if you enjoy reading anything about celebrities & the people connected with them, I don't think you will be disappointed. I certainly wasn't! I actually read it twice since the first time I read it, I was involved in taking care of some very time-consuming business and had to keep reading it on and off, so I read it the second time uninterrupted and enjoyed it even more!

I admit, I didn't quite finish this book. I knew this was going to be gossip column stuff to take with a grain of salt, that was what I wanted but I didn't enjoy that the gossip was peppered throughout an autobiography of the authors. I don't know who they are (and I thought I knew them all since I'm 68) and I don't care about their lives. Nor do I have the patience to dig through their history to find out about the celebrities they sparingly talk about. A real disappointment.
